The surroundings – attractions near Hertefeld

Hertefeld lies in the Niederrhein. It is one of the oldest
cultural landscapes of Germany, which offers very much more
than you might think.

There are many interesting things to discover, not only by car
and bicycle, but also on horseback or paddle boat. Directly at
the Hertefelder main gate, in the shade of the old chestnut trees,
is the Weezer animal enclosure. After nearly 40 years it is still
an attraction for all generations (entrance free). Here one can
see the Niederrheinische animal world and animals threatened
by extinction. The leisurely pot bellied pigs are not niederrheinisch
and are also not about to become extinct, but are so loved that
over the decades have become part of the establishment. A
small walk through this idyll is definitely worthwhile. The Niers
walking path runs through the middle of the animal enclosure.
This path leads the walker (or bicycle rider) along the Niers to
other beautiful manor houses.
